All of our Directors and our on site Project Manager work on a volunteer basis, ensuring that more than 85% of all donations received go directly to The Sumba Foundation Projects.

The Sumba Foundation Directors are:

Mr. Sean Downs: President

Mr. Downs volunteers his services as President of The Sumba Foundation. Sean first visited Sumba in 2001 and was moved by the people and culture. Following this visit, Sean joined with Claude Graves to form The Sumba Foundation.

Sean has retired from professional life to focus his full energies on The Sumba Foundation.  Previously he was Division President ofFair Isaac and Company, a New York Stock exchange Company specializing in analytical software solutions sold in the financial services and insurance markets. Prior to Fair Isaac and Company he was Division President ofHNC Software Inc before it was merged with Fair Isaac in August 2002. He has also served as President of Assured Health Care which operated a chain of primary and specialty care medical clinics.

Mr Downs has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from San Diego State University and has served on the Board of Directors for the Mission Valley YMCA.

Dr Steve Bierman: Director

Dr. Bierman is the Founder and Chief Medical Director ofVenetec, an inovator and maufacturer of catheter securement devices. Steve has over 20 years' experience in critical care medicine and over 8 years experience as a medical device company executive. He invented StatLock® and has filed over 100 patents for worldwide protection of the StatLock product line. He is also the founder and President of the National Alliance for the Primary Prevention of Sharps Injury (NAPPSI). Dr. Bierman is a graduate of UCLA (Bachelor of Science) and Northwestern University, School of Medicine.
