Phase Two will be an expansion of the model that has been developed in Phase One. The area covered will be three times larger and will cover an additional 4,000 inhabitants that are living in 45 villages. This phase will cover an area of approximately 15 square kilometers. The logistic task will be significant but we are confident that we will be able to complete this phase of Malaria intervention by the end of 2005, and in the process we will be saving lives and vastly improving the overall well-being of the villagers.
Our Specific Needs for Phase Two include:
Employing an additional 5 nurses and 45 village health assistants.
Training of these new staff to The Sumba Foundations high standards.
Purchasing 3,000 treated mosquito nets.
Purchasing Malaria drugs and clinical consumables.
Purchase of one 4wd vehicle, one ambulance and five motor cycles. All are needed to effectively monitor this large area we will be undertaking our work in.
The further expansion of The Sumba Foundation Clinic to expand the Malaria facility, and the construction of urgently required staff quarters at the clinic.
The purchase of thousands of Malaria dipsticks used to instantly test blood in the villages.
The purchase of two Computers and one GPS.
Phase Two of the Malaria Eradication Program is estimated to cost approximately $250,000 USD. The Foundation is looking for corporate and individual sponsorship for this phase of the project. We have broken down the costs of this projects phase into smaller portions so that private donors can participate to making this next phase of our project a success. These costs relate only to specific parts of the project. All infrastructure costs, salaries and wages, equipment, medicines and supplies, and transport expenses are targeted towards major benefactors and other aid organizations that the Foundation is negotiating with.
