She crossed one finish line so hundreds of children could move closer to theirs.
When Mima and her family visited Sumba last year, they experienced more than the island’s natural beauty.
Following their stay, Mima chose to spend two weeks volunteering alongside The Sumba Foundation’s Education Team, working with local staff and children across our education programs.
During her time in Sumba, she experienced first-hand how access to education can shape confidence, create opportunity, and open doors for young people living in rural communities.
Like many of our volunteers, she didn’t just leave with memories.
She left with a connection.
Turning Inspiration Into Action
Nearly a year later, that connection inspired Mima to take on a new challenge—the London Half Marathon.
Running through the streets of London, she wasn’t just chasing a finish line. She was raising funds to support education programs for the children she had met in Sumba.
Thanks to the generosity of her family, friends and supporters, Mima raised more than £500 to help continue this important work.
Every kilometre she ran will help create opportunities for children on the other side of the world.
The Ripple Effect of Volunteering
At The Sumba Foundation, we often talk about the impact our volunteers have during their time with us.
But sometimes, the greatest impact begins after they return home.
Whether it’s sharing stories, advocating for our programs, fundraising, or simply staying connected, supporters like Mima remind us that meaningful experiences create lasting relationships.
Her story is proof that even a short time spent in Sumba can continue creating opportunities long after the journey home.
Thank You, Mima
We are incredibly grateful for Mima’s commitment, generosity, and belief in the children of Sumba.
From our classrooms in Sumba to the streets of London, thank you for carrying our mission with you and reminding us that one person really can make a difference.
Congratulations on an incredible achievement—we’re so proud of you.
