Why Health?

We have diagnosed and treated approximately 400,000 patients and saved at least 500 lives.

Adequate medical care is crucial to our goal of improving the health of the Sumbanese.

In addition to malaria control, our medical clinics now treat common ailments, infections, and cuts; provide eye care and dental care; and perform minor surgery. Over the past 15 years, we have diagnosed and treated approximately 400,000 patients and saved at least 500 lives.

Improved health equates to greater productivity. In our areas, this means more farms, more food, and—eventually—the start of small economies. We’re seeing these small economies already; they are the first steps to poverty reduction.

In accordance with the Internal Revenue Service guidelines, The Sumba Foundation maintains discretion and sole control over the use of all donated funds. All donations are non-refundable. In practice, The Sumba Foundation honors the donor’s request for any of our pre-approved programs and projects whenever possible. In rare cases when that is not possible, gifts will be used where needed. Therefore, donors explicitly release The Sumba Foundation from any restrictions on how those funds are spent.
