In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the local government has set up roadblocks at major intersections and are requiring all who pass to stop and wash their hands. Sumba Foundation is assisting the government by providing hand washing stations and soap to help with this effort.
We have placed 13 stations throughout our community, including locations at roadblocks, our clinics and local markets. Through this initiative we are helping protect thousands of Sumbanese people who otherwise might not have access to clean running water.
Each hand-washing station includes a 650L tank with a stand, faucet and aluminum sink basin to control the discard of contaminated water. We supply each station with antibacterial soap and put up posters in Indonesian explaining the correct hand washing technique.
